# Travel

> Plan driving routes and travel logistics between shows.

Getting from one show to the next is a critical part of tour planning. Roadcase travel events help you map out driving routes, estimate travel times, and keep your team informed about the logistics of moving between cities.

## Creating a travel event

To add a travel leg to your schedule:

1. Click **New event** on the calendar
2. Select **Travel** as the event type
3. Enter departure and arrival locations
4. Add the date and any relevant notes
5. Click **Save**

### Travel fields

| Field | Description |
| - | - |
| **Title** | A name for this travel leg (e.g., "Chicago to Detroit") |
| **Date & time** | When the travel begins |
| **Departure location** | Where you are leaving from |
| **Arrival location** | Where you are headed |
| **Distance** | The distance between locations |
| **Estimated drive time** | How long the drive is expected to take |
| **Notes** | Additional details like route preferences or stop suggestions |

## Route planning

Travel events give you visibility into the driving logistics of your tour. When you lay out travel events between each show, you can quickly identify:

* **Long drives** that may need an early departure or a rest stop
* **Back-to-back shows** with tight travel windows
* **Routing inefficiencies** where rearranging dates could save hours on the road

> [!NOTE]
>
> When planning a tour, look at your travel events as a whole. A drive that looks manageable in isolation might be exhausting after three consecutive long-haul days.

## Travel on the calendar

Travel events appear on the calendar between your shows and lodging events, giving you a complete day-by-day picture of your tour. This is especially useful in the week and day views where you can see how travel, shows, and lodging fit together.

## Combining with other event types

Travel events work best when used alongside [Lodging](https://docs.roadcase.app/tour-planning/lodging.md) and [Shows](https://docs.roadcase.app/tour-planning/shows.md). Together, these three event types form the backbone of your tour itinerary — where you are playing, how you are getting there, and where you are staying.
